Gortemoller Engineering, Inc. served as the Prime Design Firm providing professional engineering services for the design of a 3.4-mile Shared Use Path along SR 30 (US 98) from Davisville Way to St. Marks Trail in Wakulla County, FL. The design included full roadway, drainage analysis and design, and lighting design. GE proposed to move the barrier wall on the Wakulla River Bridge in order to expand the pedestrian crossing from 6' wide to 8' wide. Due to an influential stakeholder, the decision was made to move the trail on the other side of the roadway. Though this decision was made late in the design phase, GE was able to accomplish this change while staying within the budget and maintaining the original schedule. GE made full use of the right-of-way in order to get the trail as far from US 98 as possible. There was also significant effort to minimize impacts to significant trees within the alignment.
